How to Apply

Each college may have different requirements for their applications. Make sure to read directions and keep track of deadlines! There are three ways to apply to college online, and which platform you use will depend on where you apply.

The College or University's Website

-Complete and submit an application on the college's website

-Can usually be found on the admissions page

-Some small, private colleges only accept applications this way

-Will require having any application components such as essay or test scores submitted to school via fax, mail, email, or secure online form

-Tip from Mr. Ready: It is better to apply on CFNC or CommonApp if you have the option, as those are both reusable applications

College Foundation of North Carolina

-CFNC.org

-Houses the applications to all public four-year and two-year colleges in North Carolina

-Directly ties your residency number to your application

-Can send transcripts through CFNC, and if you send transcripts with your application they will automatically send final transcripts after graduation

-Once one application is completed, will auto-fill other applications with same information

-Allows students to have many application fees waived during "free application week" in October (for 2020, Oct. 19-30)

-The ONLY way to apply to community college in North Carolina

-Ideal for students who know they will attend public school in North Carolina

Common Application

-CommonApp.org

-One college application that can be submitted simultaneously to over 1,000 colleges in the United States

-Allows students to use the same essay, recommendations, and activities without submitting multiple times

-Populated with highly competitive and competitive schools

-Ideal for students applying to private and/or out-of-state colleges

Fee Waivers

Some college applications are always FREE!

Others never are, so if you need a fee waiver for your applications, see Mrs. Riley in Guidance.

If you qualify for free lunch, you will qualify for a fee waiver. Don't let cost scare you away from applying!
