Getting College Credit in High School

There are three ways to earn college credit while at Lee County High School. These classes can boost your GPA, raise your class rank, impress college admissions offices, and save you money down the line! Your options are Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Career and College Promise courses (CCP) at Central Carolina Community College (CCCC).

Career and College Promise Courses:

  • Earn guaranteed credit towards courses at any public, North Carolina school

  • Take college courses online or in-person at Central Carolina Community College

  • Enroll as a junior or a senior as long as you have a 2.8 GPA

  • Four classes with a C or higher will earn you free tuition at Central Carolina Community College for two years

  • Final course grades go directly on your college transcript 

Advanced Placement Courses:

  • Nationally recognized as college-level rigorous coursework at almost all colleges

  • Classes taken at LCHS with high school teachers and nationally defined curriculum

  • Credit earned by a final exam scored on a scale of 1 to 5

  • Final grade does not go on college transcript or affect college GPA

  • Can be taken as early as sophomore year of high school

International Baccalaureate Courses:

  • Internationally recognized as college-level rigorous coursework at almost all colleges

  • Students have option to receive "full diploma" which requires writing a thesis

  • Makes students most competitive at highly selective institutions

  • College credit is earned through a final exam

  • Course grades do not go directly on college transcript

  • Courses taken junior and senior year of high school, with schedule fully defined for full diploma students
